英語は生き物だと思う理由｜VRChatで出会えた大切な人

英語って、勉強するだけじゃ身につかない。
僕は最近それをVRChatの中で実感している。
VRChatをしていると、世界中の人と出会える。
そして時々、本当に優しくて、温かい人に出会えることがある。
今日、僕はあらためて思った。
英語って生き物みたいなものだ。
もちろん、自分の英語力を上げることも大事。
単語を覚えたり、文法を勉強したりすることも必要。
でも、それだけじゃない。
僕が英語を話せる気になれるのは、
僕の話を真剣に聞いてくれる人がいるからだ。
VRChatの世界で出会った彼女は中国人。
英語はとても上手で、日本語も簡単な会話ならできる。
僕が英語でつたない言葉を伝えようとすると、
彼女は英語と日本語を混ぜながら聞き返してくれる。
「それって、こういうこと？」
「〇〇のこと？」
そうやって僕の話を補って広げてくれる。
だからこそ、英語しか話せない人と話すときとは違って、
安心して話を続けることができる。
英語力の問題じゃない。
その人と一緒に「会話を作っていく」からこそ成立している時間。
VRChatをしていなかったら、
こんな出会いはなかったかもしれない。
「もっと君と話したい」
「もっと君のことを知りたい」
そう思える相手がいるからこそ、自然な話題が生まれる。
伝えたいことがあるからこそ、
「これって英語でどう言えばいいんだろう？」って真剣に考える。
英語って、自分ひとりで完結するものじゃない。
誰かと一緒に育てていくものだと思う。
VRChatの世界のどこかで、
またこんな素敵な人に出会えたらいいな。

Studying English is not enough to really learn it.
I realized that recently — in the world of VRChat.
In VRChat, you can meet people from all over the world.
And sometimes, you meet someone who is really kind and warm-hearted.
Today, I thought again —
English is like a living thing.
Of course, improving my English skills is important.
Learning words, studying grammar — these are necessary.
But that’s not everything.
I feel like I can speak English
because there is someone who listens to me seriously.
In VRChat, I met her —
She is Chinese, speaks English very well,
and can also speak some Japanese.
When I try to say something in my poor English,
she asks me back in English and Japanese like:
“Do you mean this?”
“Are you talking about 〇〇?”
She helps me find the right words and expand the conversation.
That’s why I feel safe and comfortable to keep talking.
It’s not just about my English skills —
It’s about building the conversation together.
If I hadn’t played VRChat,
I might never have met someone like her.
“I want to talk with you more.”
“I want to know more about you.”
When I feel that way,
natural topics come up.
When I have something I really want to say,
I start thinking seriously — “How can I say this in English?”
English is not something you complete alone.
It’s something you grow together with someone.
I hope I can meet another wonderful person
somewhere in the world of VRChat.
